Création de voile de bateau tissée en collaboration avec la brodeuse Olgajeanne pour l’exposition « L'Objet d’une Rencontre » au Musée d’Histoire de Marseille
Rencontres Lacydoniennes naît de l’évidence pour Manon et Sophie d’embarquer dans une histoire d’épave antique à l’origine de la fondation de Massalia. S’ensuit la découverte de mondes jusqu’alors inconnus par l’intermédiaire de spécialistes : l’archéologie navale avec Dejla Garmi, Pierre Poveda, la charpenterie de marine avec Denis Borg et Cristel Poracchia pour la voilerie, le Lycée Poinso Chapuis, Corentin Tavernier et Alexandre de l’atelier de Marqueterie Leonardo de Marseille en marqueterie de bois.
De ces échanges émerge une question : comment représenter le voyage en mer, dans le temps, l’euphorie des rencontres et l’excitation des découvertes techniques ? Manon et Sophie proposent une œuvre poétique et symbolique. Le textile s’impose comme support à la rêverie, en lien avec leurs pratiques respectives.
Manon tisse plus de 13 000 m de fils de chaîne en jouant avec les matières : lin, coton, et bois pour évoquer l’ossature des bateaux traditionnels. Sophie assemble les 36 morceaux constituant la voile, et les re-brode d’éléments symboliques : cartographie marine, concrétions archéologiques, œil du Gyptis, points spécifiques aux “bateaux cousus”... Cette œuvre aux multiples facettes invite le spectateur à la rêverie et la contemplation, et relie le passé de Marseille et le présent de son activité de construction navale artisanale.

Rencontres Lacydoniennes, 2022
This boat sail was weaved in collaboration with Olgajeanne the embroiderer for the exposition « L'Objet d’une Rencontre » (“The Object of an Encounter”) at the history Museum of Marseille.
Lacydonians Encounter born from the obvious in Manon and Sophie's minds : they wanted to climb on board for a history journey through the ancient wreck behind the founding of Massalia. Then comes the discovery of new worlds with specialists such as naval archeology with Dejla Garmi and Pierre Poveda, marine carpentry with Denis Borg, sailmaker with Cristel Poracchia, and wood marquetry with Poinso Chapuis High School, and Corentin Tavernier and Alexandre from the Leonardo Marquetry workshop in Marseille.
With those talks comes a question : how can we capture the essence of the sea journey back in the days, the encounter euphoria and the thrill of technical discoveries ? Manon and Sophie put forward a poetic and symbolic work of art. Textile is the way to dream and the link between their abilities.
Manon weaves over 13000 m of warp threads and plays with materials : linen, cotton and wood that recall the framework of traditional boats. Sophie put together these 36 pieces wich made the sail, and embroidered them with symbolic elements such as marine cartography, archaeological concretions, eye of Gyptis, points specific to “stitched boats” ... This multifaceted work of art asks the visitor to dream and wonder, it is the link between Marseille's past and present.
